Parking

If you are driving, there is plenty of free, unrestricted street parking. We are on the raised side of the street, and there is no on-site parking.

Dorm Beds

Accepted Answer

Dorm beds are all labelled A, B, C, D, or E.You are not to change beds from the one we allocate in your check-in information (sent 11am on the day of check-in). There may be bookings overlapping, although not arriving on the same day as you, etc. You can always ask, but DO NOT change without our permission, or you will pay for the additional night charge, as we'll have to clean it, etc.If you want to request a bottom/top bunk or a single bed, do so when you book. At this stage, we do not guarantee bed requests. This may change, but for now it's a request, not a guarantee. Your booking is for any bed in the 5-bed mixed dorm.Likewise, we do not have male or female-only dorms. Both dorm rooms are mixed. We have two dorm rooms. If you're travelling with friends and want to be together, let us know when you book. We'll do our best to keep you all in the same room.You do not have to strip your bed at check-out. You can leave your towel near your bed as well. The kitchen space is arranged by bed as well. Follow the instructions on the fridge for how/where to store your stuff.

Accessibility

If you need additional assistance or would like to share anything privately for us to be aware of, please feel free. We will do our very best to accommodate your needs.Unfortunately, our 120-year-old house, nor the street access, was not designed with accessibility in mind. We have a temporary ramp that can be installed to assist from the front path to the verandah. However, the front gate itself does not have direct flat access, as we are on the raised side of the footpath. There are stairs up from the street parking near 10 Lovel St, or a small ramp rather than a gutter on the very corner of York St and Lovel St, outside 18 Lovel St. Inside the house, stairs lead to four upstairs bedrooms. The downstairs rooms are level entry with inward-opening doors. The bathroom has a step into showers or over a bath. Toilets are not wheelchair accessible. Mobility scooters cannot be stored, at least not easily. Please check with us first.

Peace & Quiet

We are a relaxed and quiet place to stay. There are no TVs or radios etc., on purpose. Please don't play your stuff on speaker at any time.  Our house is a traditional weatherboard and not soundproofed. We supply free earplugs for this reason. Definitely not a party place - do not stay here if you want to stay up late. All guests being considerate of others is essential, especially during quiet hours 10pm - 7am. The verandah and deck are off completely off limits after 10pm, unless you're silent. This is in respect of nearby rooms and our neighbours. Even inside the house, you may not realise how easily voices from 'normal' conversations carry, so, really, consider 10pm a cut off. The kitchen also has bedrooms either side of it so it is not really practical to use quietly after 10pm.For full house private bookings, you may bring your own music system. However, noise restrictions still strictly apply for the verandah / noise transfer outside after 10pm, in respect of our neighbours.

Payment & Cancellation

Any promotional deal that you are using may have different terms, to which you are agreeing when you use the promotion. Please refer to the promotional deal received.CANCELLATIONS MUST BE RECEIVED BY EMAIL to info@14lovelst.com BEFORE the relevant non-refundable date (eg up to midnight three days prior for individual bookings BEFORE the two day prior non-refundable period). Phone calls may be in addition to emails, but we do not use the answering machine for our landline so always email as within the required timeframe. Unless you actually speak to us, phone calls don't count.Full house bookings: 10% non-refundable deposit for bookings 3 months or more in advance and for peak periods such as long weekends. Otherwise, full refund up to 30 days before check in (ie when the balance is due). 50% refund up to 14 days before check in. After that, there is no refund. The same time frames apply to date changes as to cancellations.Peak season and special events (including but not limited to long weekends/Christmas/UTA) may have additional terms and extended cancellation periods. We will confirm when you enquire with your dates.All payments are authorised on your credit card 3 days before check in. This does not affect our refund policy.Bookings within two days: No refund. No date changes. Bookings 2 days or more in advance (not 'small groups' as below): You may cancel up to midnight three days before your check in date for a full refund before our non-refundable period begins. After that time there will be no refund.

Small Group Cancellations - Fair Play Policy

As a small, independent guesthouse, last‑minute group cancellations have a big impact on us.If you’re travelling as a group and booking multiple rooms (e.g. 3–5 rooms) for the same dates, we treat this as a Small Group Booking — even if the rooms are booked as separate reservations or under different names. Bookings of more than 5 rooms may be treated under the same cancellation periods as a full house booking.Cancellation policy for Small Group Bookings: Free cancellation up to 7 days before check‑in Cancellations within 7 days of check‑in are charged in fullFair play: If a set of bookings is clearly part of the same group, we’ll apply the Small Group Booking policy to the whole group. If you’re not sure whether your booking counts as a group, just ask — we’re happy to clarify before you book.  You may prefer our private house rental option — and it may work out cheaper for you! Please get in touch, and we’ll help you choose the best fit.

Contactless Check In

You do not need to see Reception to check in. We will probably not even be there. We'd love to say hello during your stay, but we also want to give you the flexibility to come and go when it suits you, not tied to reception desk hours. We have an easy contactless self check in system. Check-in is 2pm for individual guesthouse bookings, 3pm for full house private rentals. Late arrival is no problem, although we'd prefer by 10pm for dorms, to be respectful of your room mates. An automatic email goes out at 11am on the day of check-in (the night before for full house private rentals) with instructions & the code for check-in.You may drop off your bags from 9am at our Katoomba Street shop - "Blue Mountains Bag Storage" - 7 Katoomba Street, Katoomba. Bookings include FREE bag storage ALL DAY on the day of check in and until 1pm after checkout, then discounted rates until close. Open Friday to Monday. We have arrangements for Tuesday to Thursday when the shop is closed.

Check Out

By 10am - check out. Return your key and be out of your room. You can also hang out at No.14 in the common areas until 1pm. This also applies to full house private rentals. By 1pm* - Unfortunately, time to leave No.14. No access to the house after 1pm. You can store bags at at our Katoomba Street shop - "Blue Mountains Bag Storage" - 7 Katoomba Street, Katoomba until 1pm for FREE, and then at a discounted flat rate until close.    Open Friday to Monday. If you're checking out on Tuesday to Thursday, 'the shop' is closed, and we can make arrangements at the house until 5pm.*Why 1pm? Because we think being able to use all shared facilities until 1pm after checkout is fair when you haven't booked another night.

Child Policy

Children and babies are welcome for private full house bookings only.For individual guesthouse bookings, teenagers 16 years and over are OK for private room bookings only. Proof may be required. Your booking will be cancelled immediately, and there'll be no refund if you choose to disregard this advice.

Pet Policy

We do not allow pets of any kind at the house for individual bookings. We will consider pets for full house private rentals (with extra house rules and cleaning fees). Check with us if you'd like to rent the whole house and bring your pets. Assistance Animals must have documentation and be appropriately trained. Your booking will be cancelled immediately, and there'll be no refund if you choose to disregard this advice.

Question 13

Bathroom & Laundry

We include towels for all guests (per booking not per day, please reuse).  Click here for a video of the bathroom and click here for a video of how far it is from the upstairs bedrooms. There are a few hairdryers in the share bathroom, and liquid soap is avaialble for all showers / basins. We also have a washer/dryer for guests' use, at additional cost. No need for coins. There is a QR code to scan, or just ask us to charge your card. To maximise use of solar electricity, during the day is best time to use them. Also, they are not to be used during our quiet hours of 10pm-7am so as not to disturb upstairs bedroom with vibrations.For full house private bookings, laundry use is also included in your rental.

Breakfast & Kitchen

In respect of other guests, leave the kitchen tidy. Wash, dry and PUT AWAY whatever you use.We do not say that we include 'breakfast' in our rates, because people got confused. We do have a free simple choice of oats/muesli/cornflakes with milk (including soy), tea & instant coffee to get you started. Shared kitchen has gas stovetops, oven, microwave oven, pizza and baking trays, Bialetti type stovetop espresso makers, and a few small cafetières, if you'd like to buy your own ground coffee. Salt, pepper, canola oil, plastic wrap and aluminium foil are also supplied. Supermarkets are about 10-15min walk (2min drive) from us.

Cooling & Heating

There are fans in each room for the warmer nights. Central heating throughout (ie not individually controlled in the room as far as on/off but you can adjust vent) and our fireplace in the main living room for cooler nights. We also have baskets of 'granny rugs' in the library and main lounge if you'd like some extra bedding. Smoking or Vaping

We are now a completely smoke-free environment for our individual guesthouse bookings.From 1 January 2026:Individual Bookings: No.14 Lovel St is a 100% smoke-free property. Smoking and vaping are not permitted anywhere on the property - or within 4 metres of our entry gate (ie nowhere on the footpath outside the house either). Please also respect our neighbours' private residences, either side of No.14. Your smoke wafting into their property may also be considered a 'nuisance' under NSW law. Full House Private Rentals: Smoking and vaping are allowed only outdoors when the entire house is booked by one group. Please ensure this takes place strictly outside and well away from doors and windows, so smoke does not enter the house and affect the comfort of future guests, or set off our fire alarm system (extra fees may apply).

Question 17

Bicycle Storage

We do not have dedicated bike storage. Bicycles can be stored under the outside staircase (not 100% weatherproof but somewhat covered) with your own bike lock/chain. Dedicated storage is on our "to do list". We'll update here when it happens.

Question 18

Minimum Length of Stay

During peak periods, we have a minimum two-night stay. This may increase to three nights for some special events.  At other times, while we do have single night rates, booking two or more nights will give you the best price.If you are already staying with us, and wish to extend one night, the online booking platform may not show any availability, so ask at reception at 9am, or call us on the dedicated mobile number for in-house guests.

Question 19

Maximum Length of Stay

We have a maximum booking for individuals of up to seven nights. Full-house private rentals do not have a limit. Separate bookings don't change this policy. If you're doing a course in the Mountains, for example, let us know your plans. However, suppose you're a long-term traveller, looking for residential, a 'nomad', for example, we suggest you try co-living or other larger accommodation options in the area after seven nights. How often between bookings?   Exceptions can be made for some guests doing local courses, work or events etc.     Ask at reception around 9am for more clarification.   Otherwise if you're more of a long-term traveller, please try other accommodation options.

Guest Conduct - Good Vibes Only

We have zero tolerance for anti-social, rude or entitled behaviour. Do not mistake our kindness for weakness. We expect you to treat all other guests and our team with respect and follow house rules. All bookings are subject to our terms and house rules. At management's complete discretion, any booking may be cancelled without refund and with immediate eviction for breaking this agreement.

Security & Privacy

Only registered guests are permitted at our property. Friends or family are welcome to come inside briefly to drop you off or pick you up, but they cannot hang out at the house.For everyone’s safety, please do not allow anyone else into the house—if you let someone in, you may be held responsible for their actions. There are clear instructions on the door for anyone arriving; if someone is unable to follow them, please don’t worry, as you’re not expected to act as reception. If anyone needs assistance or if you have any concerns, simply call us, and we’ll take care of it.To help keep everyone safe and comfortable, security devices may be in place in our common areas and property exterior. Rest assured, there are no devices in bedrooms or the shared bathroom! Click here to view our privacy policy. Lost Property

Please make sure you check your room thoroughly before checkout for any misplaced items. We take no responsibility for your property while at the house or after checkout. If it is in a private room, or we can obviously identify the dorm bed something may belong to, we will always try to contact the guest to come back and get their forgotten item. We also have prepaid Australia Post satchels to send lost property within Australia. However, it's not always possible to identify who the owner may be, especially in dorm rooms (and it's unreasonable to contact every guest who's passed through a dorm!). Whether we're able to contact you or not, we will hold items for 14 days from discovery in the hope that you'll realise and get in touch. After that time, they will be discarded or donated.
