Slow Travel, Digital Detox, and Classic Summer Adventures Await
Dreaming of a digital detox, a tech-free retreat, or a nostalgic escape to simpler times? Summer in the Blue Mountains is your invitation to slow down, unplug, and rediscover the joy of mindful travel. At No.14 Lovel St, our vintage guesthouse is the perfect base for a relaxing getaway, wrapped in thoughtful hospitality and surrounded by nature’s best.
Here’s why we (and our guests) love summer in the Blue Mountains:

Daylight Saving Long Days!
With sunrise from 6am and sunset stretching out to 8pm, you’ll get the most out of every day—whether you’re hitting the trails early, taking in the views, or simply savouring slow mornings. When night falls, there’s still plenty of time for night lit walks, and stargazing is a lot more comfortable with the warmer evenings!
Christmas & New Year's (without Sydney Chaos)
Celebrate the festive season in vintage style. Enjoy intimate Christmas dinners at local venues or join in on New Year’s Eve balls that capture the spirit of the mountains—no crowds or city chaos, just good company and a welcoming community. It’s nostalgia at its best, with all the magic and none of the stress. Here, the festive season is about connection, tradition, and making memories in a place where time slows down. (Editor's note: wrote this too late for 2025, but never too early to book No.14 for 2026!).
Picnics
Summer is picnic season in the Blue Mountains. Pack a basket with local treats and head to one of the many lookouts, parks, or hidden spots for an alfresco meal with friends or family. The fresh mountain air and sweeping vistas make every bite taste better, and there’s a certain nostalgia in spreading out a blanket under the tall gums, far from screens and schedules. Whether you prefer a shady patch or a sunny spot with valley views, there’s a perfect picnic place for everyone—ideal for slow travel and mindful moments.
Cooling off in Waterfalls
When the temperature rises, nothing beats the refreshing thrill of dipping into a mountain waterfall. Explore secret swimming holes and well-known cascades like Wentworth Falls or Empress Falls, where cool, clear water and the sound of rushing falls offer instant relief from the summer heat. It’s a true digital detox—no screens, just nature’s own spa. These wild swimming spots are the perfect way to reconnect with nature and enjoy the pure, simple pleasures of summer.
Big Blue Skies & Expansive Views
Blue Mountains summers are famous for their endless blue skies and jaw-dropping vistas. Whether you’re bushwalking to a lookout or simply relaxing on our deck, you’re treated to sweeping panoramas and ever-changing light. The clarity of summer days makes for unforgettable photos and moments of mindful awe. Something is soul-soothing about gazing out over the valleys, letting your thoughts wander as far as the horizon.

Sunset Drinks with a View
As the day winds down, find your favourite spot—maybe our outdoor deck or a local bar—and raise a glass to the sunset. Watch the sky turn gold and pink over the escarpment, with the cool evening breeze and the sound of birds settling in for the night. It’s the perfect way to savour slow travel and celebrate another day well spent. These are the moments that make a getaway so rewarding—just you, good company, and nature’s nightly show.
Holiday Mode
There’s a special energy in the Blue Mountains in summer—everyone’s a little more relaxed, the pace is slower, and holiday mode is contagious. Whether you’re here for a few days or a week, you’ll find yourself unwinding, taking things as they come, and enjoying the simple pleasures—like a good book, a nap in the sun, or a chat with a fellow guest. It’s the kind of place where nostalgia and new memories blend effortlessly.
Adventure Sports
For thrill-seekers, summer brings the best conditions for canyoning, abseiling, mountain biking, and bushwalking. The region is packed with expert guides and adventure operators, making it easy to try something new or push your limits. After an action-packed day, return to No.14 for a hot shower and stories shared around the lounge. Adventure here is as much about the journey as the adrenaline—a mindful, immersive way to experience the mountains.
Festivals & Events
From the lively Ukulele Festival in February at The Carrington Hotel to the inaugural Seven Valleys Wild Food Festival in Lithgow in 2026. These community gatherings are a great way to experience local culture, taste regional produce, and feel the nostalgic spirit of the mountains. Join in, meet the locals, and discover the traditions that make the Blue Mountains unique.
Escape the Sydney Heatwave Spikes
While the city swelters, the Blue Mountains offer a cooler, refreshing escape. Enjoy fresh mountain breezes and more comfortable nights, even when Sydney is in the grip of a heatwave. It’s the perfect reason to head for the hills and enjoy vintage hospitality in a naturally cooler climate. Here, you can sleep soundly and wake refreshed—ready for another day of exploration.

Wild Swimming
Discover hidden swimming holes and natural pools. Wild swimming is a mindful, invigorating way to connect with nature. Each spot has its own charm, from shady forest pools to sun-dappled cascades, all waiting to be explored. There’s a sense of freedom and childlike joy in plunging into cool, clear water on a hot day.
Coolness of Glow Worm Tunnel & Jenolan Caves
Step into another world with a visit to the Glow Worm Tunnel or the legendary Jenolan Caves (expected to reopen in 2026 - date TBC). These cool, underground spaces are not only fascinating to explore but also provide a natural respite from the summer sun. Other glow worm spots closer to Katoomba are great for an evening exploration, with the bonus of enjoying the cooler part of a hot day. Bring a sense of wonder (and red light torch) to experience the magic of glowing ceilings and ancient rock formations, perfect for some unplugged adventure.
School Holiday Specials
Summer holidays mean extra fun for families. Attractions like Dinosaur Valley at Scenic World and creative workshops at the Cultural Centre keep all ages entertained. It’s a great time to introduce kids to the beauty of the mountains and make memories that last. From hands-on activities to outdoor adventures, there’s something for every curious mind.

Pick Your Own Fruit in Bilpin Orchards
One of summer’s sweetest traditions—head to Bilpin and pick your own apples (Jan–April), strawberries (Nov–Mar), or stone fruit (Nov/Dec). There’s nothing quite like the taste of fresh fruit straight from the tree, and the nostalgia of a day in the orchard is hard to beat. Enjoy a slow, mindful day surrounded by orchards, filling your basket (and your heart) with the flavours of summer.
